Urgent Tasks, Critics and the Summer Season

How has July been on your end?

It’s that time of year where things feel a little quieter. Slower replies, more out of offices, and maybe even a dip in inquiries!

But it can also be the perfect time to pause and check in on your own business before things pick up again in September.

Here’s your July roundup 👇

Last Minute Asks

I know you’ve been there! Opened your emails, spotted something from a Client and thought, “Seriously? You’re only sending this now?”.

Getting “urgent” work dropped on your lap without notice isn’t just frustrating..

If it’s something that happens often, it can slowly chip away at your time, your energy and affect how your business runs!

That’s why it’s important that we aren’t just putting up with it! Because if you’re always accommodating last minute requests, there’s no space left for you, your other clients or your own business growth.

I shared a post this month with a few ways to handle those moments - including what to actually say, whether you're drawing a firmer line or introducing turnaround times for the first time.

Your Own Worst Critic

The SVAI Awards were a big focus for me in July with entries closing on the 18th. It’s our third year running them and every year, the same pattern shows up..

Incredible, experienced people who are doing amazing work… doubting themselves and holding back.

And oddly enough, it’s usually those who’ve been in business longer who hesitate the most!

There are probably lots of reasons for that.. Business is tough and knocks along the way can shake your confidence. But it doesn’t change what you’ve built or how good you are at what you do!

Some of the people who stood with trophies in past years are the same ones we had to gently encourage to even apply.

So if you’ve been feeling wobbly lately, take this as your reminder: You don’t have to believe everything your inner critic says and you’re most definitely doing better than you think!!

Summer Check In

If things are quiet for you right now, this is your window to look at how your business is running. July and August always see a lull with people on holiday but that’s a massive opportunity for you!

Before the back to school surge hits in September, give yourself a bit of time to reflect..

⚡️On how your 2025 goals are coming along

⚡️Who you are working with and if all agreements make sense still

⚡️What you want to focus on in the last few months of the year

If you’d like a bit of guidance on using this season wisely, I released a podcast episode about this last summer.

Thanks for reading along!
